Know the value of face-to-face communication. Very young children learn best through two-way communication. Engaging in back-and-forth "talk time" is critical for language development. Conversations can be face-to-face or, if necessary, by video chat with a traveling parent or far-away grandparent. Research has shown that it's that "back-and-forth conversation" that improves language skills—much more so than "passive" listening or one-way interaction with a screen.

John Legend is on solo daddy duty, and he's taken that as an opportunity to groom his son for stardom.

The 10-time Grammy Award winner posted a video on social media of his 9-month-old son, Miles, singing into a toy microphone to the tune of "Wheels on the Bus."

"Sing it, Miles!" the 40-year-old dad was heard telling his son.

And sing, Miles did — a little off-key for being the son of a Grammy winner, but he's a baby so he gets a pass. He also attempted to eat or taste (unknown at this point) the microphone.

"Good job!" Legend told his son.

Legend's wife, Chrissy Teigen, reposted the video on her social media feed and said that her husband has been on "solo dad duties" while she was visiting Pittsburgh for the day.

john been on solo daddy duty while I visited Pittsburgh for a day of work! I know my feed is ALL my kids now and I don’t know who I’ve become but I can’t stop myself. I need help

A fan of Miles' singing commented under Legend's post asking if his son had an agent or manager yet.

"Does he have representation?," asked Luke Dillon, who is Teigen's manager.

Fellow model Carolyn Murphy commented on Teigen's post and said: "Mini John" and added a string of heart eye emojis.
