Jenna Jameson justifies breastfeeding on keto diet: 'My milk increased'

Jenna Jameson is telling mothers that it's OK to breastfeed and simultaneously be on the keto diet.
, the former adult film star said that she wanted to address the "taboo" subject of breastfeeding while on the low-carb ketogenic diet. She said critiques about not being able to produce enough breast milk on the diet were "seriously ridiculous."
"I thought the same thing for a long time," Jameson wrote in her Instagram caption. "I was absolutely wrong. The moment I got into full ketosis my milk increased."
Ketosis is when the body begins to burn fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates.

Let’s talk breastfeeding and #keto This subject is quite taboo it seems. A lot of naysayers rattle off falsehoods like “you have to eat oats to produce sufficient milk”. Seriously ridiculous. I thought the same thing for a long time. So when I started my #weightlossjourney I slowly subtracted carbohydrates over a week long period while monitoring my supply. I think a lot of people think Keto is all about bacon salami and copious amounts of cheese. It’s actually quite well rounded with lots of organic veggies, fish and eggs. The 44-year-old model has been a longtime advocate for breastfeeding in general -- posting photos often to her social media indicating her support.
Jameson, who claims she's lost more than 80 pounds on the keto diet, said she thinks people have a misconstrued idea of what the diet is all about.
"I think a lot of people think Keto is all about bacon salami and copious amounts of cheese. It’s actually quite well rounded with lots of organic veggies, fish and eggs," wrote the mother of three.
Jameson added that she understands that all bodies are different and encouraged mothers to do their research and start slowly if they want to nurse while on the keto diet.
Schedule daily special time. Let your child choose an activity where you hang out together for 10 or 15 minutes with no interruptions. There's no better way for you to show your love.
Nursing moms should seek the advice of a physician about breastfeeding and dieting.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises nursing mothers to consume an additional 450 to 500 more kilocalories of healthy food than normal. The agency suggests that vegan or vegetarian mothers should take B12 vitamin supplements.
